Brendan McWhirk's Portfolio

Verizon

CLIENT: Verizon is a global leader in telecommunications. For over six years, I have contributed to their Digital, Social, Retail and Testing teams to develop campaigns, landing pages and assets. My experience has allowed me to be hands-on with a variety of product lines and subdivisions, enabling me to understand the business from a broad, holistic vantage point. With that know-how in my arsenal I aimed to become a jack-of-all-trades, able to assist the unique needs of any department. Equipped with my nerdy fascination of all things future tech and AI, I accelerated timelines and pushed the boundaries between data, creativity and machine-assisted perception.

VERIZON BUSINESS

RUGGED DEVICES

Tough jobs need tougher phones. We didn’t want to just sell a product, we wanted consumers to know these devices mean business.

2025 MOBILE SECUITY INDEX

The best defense against a cyberthreat is protection you can count on. But that requires trust. I worked across the Verizon Business team to formulate a concise narrative that backs up it’s offerings with straight-up statistics.

IoT SOLUTIONS

Verizon’s Internet of Things (IoT) focuses on connecting physical devices to networks so businesses can collect and act on data in real-time. One part strategy, one part success stories, tons of reasons to pick Verizon.

VERIZON TESTING

For three years, I served as Lead Copywriter for Verizon’s Testing Optimization team, a group focused on identifying high-impact customer touchpoints that weren’t driving engagement. Partnering with strategy, we translated data into actionable briefs and executed targeted solutions designed around buyer behavior.

The role demanded sharp copy instincts, critical problem-solving, implementing the latest AI future-tech and an of understanding of what motivates customers to act. The result: multiple multimillion-dollar tests that helped shape the landscape of the Verizon brand.

BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE LP MULTIVARIATE TEST

Background: The idea of bringing in your own device to easily switch is considered daunting to some. The testing team devised methods to portray how simple the process is through copy and design options.
Hypothesis:
Delivering the most optimal experience on the Bring Your Own landing page to prospects will drive higher engagement.
Test ran: Two weeks
Resulted in: +27.3k incremental orders
Test earnings: $13.9m Net Home Revenue Increase

Original message:
Headline: Bring your own device and save.
Subhead: Get a Verizon Gift Cars of up to $500 per line on select 5G Unlimited plans.

Six different copy variants were tested over a two-week period. Each version presented potential customer savings differently within the headline and subhead, allowing us to determine which messaging resonated most strongly with a broad audience. Our winning treatment mentioned clear monthly savings, which became our new primary message.

We added a module beneath the hero section to highlight the purpose and functionality of the eSIM card, an area that can often create confusion for customers. Two variations were tested, one with a white design and one with a black design. Each iteration featured differing copy and icon treatments. While both versions drove engagement, the black variation ultimately outperformed with a stronger conversion rate.

IN-CART PROMO Review Value Prop Tile Test (phase one)

Background: Fallout is happening at check out. There’s no current offer or value prop messaging present.
Hypothesis:
The addition of a new tile with value prop messaging will improve fallout and lead to increased order rates.
Test ran: Two weeks
Test earnings: $3.0m Net Home Revenue Increase

IN-CART PROMO Review Value Prop Tile Test (phase TWO)

Background: Fallout has slowed since Phase One of the test. In Phase Two we introduced more customer offerings and hosted the test across 5G Home Plus and LTE Home pages.
Hypothesis: If round one was an indicator of things to come, more placements paired with more enticing offerings shouid continue to drive sales.
Test ran: Two weeks
Test earnings: $13.2m Net Home Revenue Increase

bLACK FRIDAY PROMO GLOBAL NAV RIBBON MESSAGING TEST

Background: Prior global navigation ribbon testing on Verizon Home Internet pages have shown promising results when paired with “limited time” messaging.
Hypothesis: Featuring new, unique urgency messaging in the global nav ribbon will generate interest and boost funnel progression. This time, we included a real-time countdown clock to increase immediacy and play off of customer fomo.
Test ran: One week
Test earnings: $1.1m Net Home Revenue Increase

Although this test may not showcase the flashiest results, it’s a strong example of creative problem-solving in action. Originally outside the team’s planned roadmap, we took the initiative to bring it to life, quickly turning it around and introducing an innovative countdown clock to capture attention and drive engagement. The team tested a unique promotional message alongside three different colorways across three Verizon Home Internet product pages. Despite running for a limited time, the test still generated over $1 million in revenue.
